I watched the Lammy awards roll in from the living room of a 1940s Sears mail-order house in Champaign, Illinois this year. I wish I could have seen the room when The Collection won Transgender Fiction!
Did you know that this is the first time a book by trans writers has won Transgender Fiction? And that 50% of the books that have won the “Transgender” category over the last 20 years have been authored or edited by cisgender (as far as we know) people? That said, I can’t think of a better book to be the first.
Here’s an article about the awards that goes into more detail: Rewriting the Story of Shame and Isolation: The Lambda Literary Awards Turn 25.
And in other good news, QUEERING SEXUAL VIOLENCE HAS FOUND A PUBLISHER! For years I’ve wondered when the publishing world was going to wise up and print this important and necessary book. It’ll be coming from Magnus Books (no release date yet).
